Comments
Distance Medley Relay CompetitorsWestmont Track and Field hosted the Sunshine Indoor Open on a rainy day at the Warriors' outdoor track. The soggy meet saw 359 athletes from 13 schools and three clubs compete in 44 events. Westmont's Becky Collier and Madison Herrera finished first and second in the indoor pentathlon, posting point totals of 3,330 and 3,108 respectively. While both marks exceed the minimum requirement to qualify for the NAIA Indoor National Championships, only the 16 athletes in the nation with the top pentathlon marks will be awarded a spot to compete at nationals. Achieving an automatic qualifying mark was Taryn Phipps in 600 meters. Phipps won the race in a hand time of 1:35.8. Jessica Meyers took second in the mile, notching an automatic qualification time of 5:06.86. Kelly Collins and Emily Williams each posted automatic qualification times in the 5,000 meters while finishing second and third. Collins completed the distance in a time of 17:42.95 and Williams finished in a time of 18:09.89. Heidi Nicholls took fourth in the event with a provisional qualifying time of 18:30.33.
