Dalton Earns Second All-American Title

Comments
Alexus DaltonA day after taking second in the pentathlon at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships, Westmont's Alexus Dalton has earned her second All-American honor by finishing as runner-up in the long jump. On her fourth attempt, Dalton jumped 5.76 meters (18-10.75) and came within 0.06 meters (3.25 inches) of catching Oklahoma Baptist's Elizabeth Dadzie who finished first. Dalton's previous best jump this season was 5.55 meters (18-2.5). The junior transfer's jump was the third longest in Warrior history; just 0.09 meters off of Kasey Kearin's school record of 5.85 meters. Also competing in the event was Kristan Holding who finished 21st with a jump of 5.09 meters (16-8.5). Elysia Mitchell won the third heat of the women's 600 meter run, posting a time of 1:36.16. As a result, Mitchell will have an opportunity to defend her national championship which she won last year. Mitchell was the third fastest finisher out of all the heats. Taryn Phipps just missed qualifying for the finals in the 800 meters, despite running a personal best 2:14.85. After leading most of the way, Phipps finished third in her heat and ninth overall. Phipp's time was the sixth fastest in the Warrior record books. [men's results] [women's results]
