Warriors Race to First in Opening MeetPublished by
Westmont Track and Field opened the 2016 season by hosting the On Your Marks Invitational on Saturday. The Warriors claimed both the men's and women's team competitions, winning each by more than 100 points.
The Westmont women scored 276 points with Concordia (Calif.) taking second with 92 points. Vanguard (63 points) edged William Jessup (62 points) to claim third place. In the men's competition, Westmont scored 291.5 points while Vanguard claimed second with 101 points.
Westmont's Becky Collier won the women's high jump while earning an automatic qualification for the NAIA Indoor National Championships. Collier cleared 1.65 meters (5-5). Ali Johnson claimed a win in the 800 meters with a time of 2:26.73 while Jessica Meyers won the women's mile in a time of 5:17.54. Olivia Wood crossed the finish line of the women's 3,000 meter in a time of 11:12.48 to claim first place.
Westmont entered four teams in the women's 4 x 400 meters and the Warriors finished first through fourth. Melissa McCormick, Brianna Stoppa, Abigail White and Taryn Phipps came in first with a time of 4:12.47.
